About the project

The Diamonds Are Forever Re-Imagined project is an ambitious fan-edit of the classic James Bond film Diamonds Are Forever (1971). It combines live-action footage from the original film with new material created by 3D animation.

The intention is to transform the film from a normal Bond film into a sequel to On Her Majesty's Secret Service (1969).

Although Diamonds Are Forever was fairly well recieved during its release in 1971,  modern opinion from critics and large numbers of fans list it as one of the weakest entries in the Bond series.

This is mainly due to the camp tone the filmmakers implemented. This was a deliberate attempt to move away from the grittier tone of On Her Majesty's Secret Service (1969), which was seen as a disappointment at the time as it did not do as well at the box office compared to its predecessors.

However, the film does still have its fans. Myself included! Whether it is the lift fight in Amsterdam, the fight with Bambi and Thumper, the high-speed car chase in downtown Las Vegas or even the witty dialogue, there are some highlights to the film that its defenders will bring up.

But some of the grievances held by the film's critics is understandable. Having set up a potential revenge plot at the end of the previous film, seeing Bond do battle against the villain Blofeld in this film with no explicit mention of the events of On Her Majesty's Secret Service is disappointing if you look at this way.

Knowing this, I wondered what it would be like if the filmmakers did decide to follow-up the story idea of Bond trying to avenge his murdered wife, by making a sequel to OHMSS (albeit my version would have Sean Connery and not George Lazenby due to this being partly a fan-edit). Henceforth, this DAF Re-Imagined project was born.

On this blog, I post updates on the development of this fan-edit/animation hybrid. There'll be details on various animated sequences that I'm creating in a software called Moviestorm, to fill in the gaps between live-action scenes.

And I'll also go into depth on the screenplay I've written, which adjusts the story of the original 1971 film to give Bond the motivation of revenge against Blofeld. Hopefully, it will enable this project to become a satisfying sequel to OHMSS, just as the You Only Live Twice novel was to the OHMSS novel.

This project has been in development since 2018, and I look forward to sharing its progress with you as it continues in the future.

Cheers,

- The Retro Captain
